The project aims at developing and validating innovative materials and technologies for systemic improvement of seismic behaviour of CH assets. It develops an integrated methodology, which includes also design methods, advanced monitoring and early warning techniques. To reach this goal, the project is structured into three main steps, in a three-year time:
- Creation of a database with new relational structure with the task of orienting and assisting the development of materials and techniques for intervention (main achievement at PM12);
- Experimental testing, numerical simulation, parametric modelling and derivation of design methods for vertical and horizontal structural elements and connections (obtained at PM24) and for the overall seismic behaviour of buildings (obtained at PM30);
- Development of knowledge-based assessment procedures and final validation of the entire methodology on real case-studies. Guidelines for end-users (final project milestone, at PM36).
The technical programme has been designed according to this research approach. It is divided into 10 interactive workpackages (WP).

Project Management, lasting for the whole duration of the project and aimed at coordinating and monitoring all the activities, verifying the successful achievement of the expected milestones. It will be assessed through the public access to the project website and data base (M1 at PM3) and by the regular six-monthly meetings and reports (M2, during the project).

Ensure the dissemination of results within technical and scientific communities and end-users groups (beginning with PM3), and the exploitation by participating institutions and in particular SMEs and Industry. The Workpackage will be monitored through the issue of an initial plan for dissemination and exploitation (M2 at PM6), by the organization of 6 main events and many other smaller events during the project duration, which will lead to the achievement of a favourable platform for dissemination and exploitation at the end of the project. At PM 36 will be realized a project presentation in form of a video.

Aimed at the creation of a new structured database and at the subsequent development of new materials and improved techniques for intervention on Historical Construction assets, (beginning with PM1). This objective, of basic importance, is achieved by intense work and is subjected to intense assessment: initial constitution of the catalogue (PM6); development of materials and techniques (PM12); parameterization, completion, publication of the catalogue (M3 at PM18).

This Workpackage covers the intervention techniques for vertical elements (walls and pillars), beginning with PM6 It includes experimental characterization, analysis of feasibility and cost, numerical simulations, parametric assessment, and development of simplified design procedures. The experimental behaviour and initial possibilities of numerical simulations are checked at PM15. The results of parametric analyses, and the developed design methods, are given at PM21.

This workpackage covers the intervention techniques for horizontal elements (floors, roofs and vaults), beginning with PM6. The structure is parallel to that of the previous WP. The experimental behaviour and initial possibilities of numerical simulations are checked at PM15. The results of parametric analyses, and the developed design methods, are given at PM21.

Aimed at developing various interventions for the different structural connections, in particular dissipative systems with early warning, (beginning with PM9). It is also aimed at intense experimental characterization of both original and strengthened connections. Progresses in this WP will be checked by delivery of the dissipative connections (PM18) and by obtaining the entire set of experimental results on original and improved connections (M4, at PM24).

This workpackage is aimed at validating, by shaking table testing, the systemic improvement of the overall seismic response of strengthened sub-assemblies and model buildings, (begins with PM9). Tests will be accurately designed, to achieve reliable results minimizing the costs. The results on substructures and their relation with results on structural elements and connections will be available at PM24, followed at PM27 by the complete set of results.

This Workpackage is aimed at developing behaviour models for vertical and horizontal elements and for connections. Simplified models to be implemented into complex global analyses are developed (M5, PM24) and begins with PM9. Parametric analyses of buildings will be carried out to quantify performance and response parameters, to be used for assessment and design (M6, PM30).

In this Workpackage it's developed and applied the knowledge-based assessment procedures to real case studies, (begins with PM12). It is the final demonstration about the feasibility of the envisaged solutions and of the entire integrated methodology in real site conditions. It will thus represent a very important part of the last milestone of the project (M7, to be reached at PM36).
